ABSTRACT

Genarating DEM(Digital Elevation Model) is critical for the beginners if they fail to understand the module. General problem that faced by the users are difficult to understand the steps in generating DEM since the data came from the various format. For an example, generating DEM using ARCGIS sotfware need some data manipulation depends on the based data. It is difficult for unexperience user to alter the step while manipulating data. ARCGIS module conversion funtion available on ARCMAP but ARCGIS viewing DEM in ARCSCENE. ARCSCENE environment must be execute to view the model and at the same time the TIN (Triangular Irregular Network) surface loaded behind the image or grid.
The same steps are use in generating DEM using ARC/INFO Worstation. ARC/INFO Workstation is the module from ESRI offer the equal function as ARCGIS. Since ARCGIS became a popular software in GIS industry, ARC/INFO Workstation was left behind. Inside ARC/INFO Workstation exist a processor which programming language called AML (Arc Macro Language). AML is a robust programming language that consist of three element which are directive, function and variabe. The steps in ARC/INFO Workstation can be automate using AML. The function exist in ARC/INFO Workstation programmed in AML using appropriate directive, function and variable saved in .aml file format can be run in ARC using '&run' function. The most unbelievable matters here are the program only need to be written in notepad. But most dificult things are recognizing suitable funtion and create the steps and program direction. AML have two main environment which are ARC and GRID. ARC is the conversion function area and GRID is the manipulating, analysis and viewing data. Some command accepted by both but lots of the same command cannot executed in both environment......
